Since colonialization, Africa has been forced to follow the commands and instructions of others. Many of these proclamations come wrapped in aid packages and development projects that continue to ensure Africa's dependency on foreign "donors". Unfortunately, these organizations have little understanding of the realities of the lives of the people they propose to be "helping" and rarely allow the beneficiaries to decide what is in their own best interests.

The era of top down, multi-national dictation is coming to a close as we bridge the digital divide. For the first time Africa is coming to find her voice. One by one individuals are being empowered to share their voices with the world. It is the time for grassroots sustainable development, African style.

The mission of  the Voices of Africa project is four-fold:

1) To facilitate change in rural villages by installing ICTs and empowering the people to utilize technology to improve their standards of living.

2) To raise awareness of the need for information and communication technologies (ICT) in rural Africa and to seek financial support for their implementation.

3) To create a safe space for Africans from all nations, tribes, and genders to share their ideas, passions, concerns, and troubles with others internationally.

4) To become a supporting and founding member of the growing movement for African liberation.
